Tracing the Map of Injustice A Poetry Reading Featuring Cindy Williams Gutiérrez

In this reading, Cindy Williams Gutiérrez will trace the map of North America with poems that bear witness to social injustice. She will read from her new collection, Inlay with Nacre: The Names of Forgotten Women, which explores the global oppression of women and testifies to their resilience.

Cindy Williams Gutiérrez’s new collection, Inlay with Nacre: The Names of Forgotten Women, was awarded a 2016 Oregon Literary Fellowship and the 2018 Willow Books Editor’s Choice Poetry Selection. She was selected by Poets & Writers Magazine as a 2014 Notable Debut Poet for the small claim of bones (Bilingual Press), which placed second in the 2015 International Latino Book Awards. Cindy received the 2017 Oregon Book Award for Drama for Words That Burn which premiered at Portland’s Milagro Theatre and was produced at the Merc Playhouse in 2017. A concert reading of her play In the Name of Forgotten Women was presented at Wellspring in 2019. A full production is scheduled to be produced by CoHo Productions in Portland in 2021. Cindy is cofounder of Los Porteños, Portland’s Latino writers’ collective, and of the Methow Valley’s Confluence Poets. More information here: www.grito-poetry.com
